Letter from Doug Babcock on Hurricane Ian

12.2.22

Dear Sanibel Captiva Beach Resorts friends and fans,

We’re thrilled to share that our legendary Captiva Island beach resort, ‘Tween Waters Island Resort & Spa, has received approval to welcome all guests with valid lodging reservations beginning Saturday, December 17, 2022. Lodging reservations may now be made online at www.Tween-Waters.com, or by calling 239.472.5161.

In operation, guests with resort reservations will receive a corporate email confirmation that includes name and date of reservation. Each day, ‘Tween Waters will supply officials at the Causeway Access checkpoint a list of these reservations. Guests should simply provide authorities with a printed copy of their reservation, along with photo identification, for access to the islands.

As the first full-service resort to open on the islands, we’re extremely grateful for the trust and cooperation the City of Sanibel has shown in granting all of our guests access to ‘Tween Waters Island Resort & Spa. We accept this great opportunity with sincere responsibility, and ask our guests to travel safely, yet directly, to ‘Tween Waters Captiva — to allow the work of islands repair and restoration to carry on easily.

Our rooms are safe and clean, our private beaches pristine, our pools sparkling, our restaurant delicious for breakfast, lunch and dinner — and our team excitedly looking forward to welcoming everyone back, from all over the country and beyond!

Shouldn’t every day be this good?

Until next time,

Doug Babcock | President and CEO

Our resilient reservationists are finally able to begin refunds thanks to the hard work and efforts of our IT team and system partners. We thank you for your continued patience as we begin with those impacted from the week of the hurricane.

At Beachview Cottages and Castaways Cottages, all guests with upcoming reservations will be contacted. Our phone systems are still down. If you have not received a call yet, rest assured that one of our amazing and resilient reservationists will be in touch with you soon. Please refrain from chargebacks with your credit card company as it complicates and delays the process.

For West Wind Island ResortBeachview Cottages and Castways Cottages, we’re assessing damages to better understand a reopening timeline. Rest assured that Sanibel Captiva Beach Resorts is ready and committed to rebuilding all of our four beach properties into a renewed, reimagined, reenergized form of themselves — or to coin my favorite term, evolve into a new, higher, better form.

The Sanibel Captiva Island Vacations team is actively seeking island homeowners willing to rent their properties that have passed inspections and mold testing as we have high demand for on-island housing.

‘Tween Waters Island Resort & Spa has power and water! There is internet, however it is intermittent and not guaranteed.

The Sanibel Causeway temporary bridge is now open to hurricane pass holders — residents, business owners, restoration crews and others. This is a great next step at bringing back the infrastructure of our island community.

On behalf of all of our team members, our hearts go out to you and your family in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian. While our group sales team is extremely short-staffed at the moment, we have begun outreach calls and emails to bridal parties with upcoming weddings starting with events impacted the week of the hurricane.

Brides with events scheduled after December 31, 2022. We will be in touch with you and we are grateful and humbled by your patience and understanding as we coordinate with brides with weddings dates that were scheduled to take place in the upcoming days and weeks.

We apologize for the stress this situation places on you and again, we wish there was more we could do in a timelier manner. We have incredible local, county, state and federal officials that are working around the clock in full force to assist our community with regaining the resources we need to host your event.

If you are traveling to the resort by boat, you do not need a hurricane pass to stay overnight at ‘Tween Waters. Booking a boat slip in advance is strongly encouraged. Call 239.671.0499 or complete a boat slip request through our online form. You can stay overnight in your boat or book a room at the resort. To book a hotel room, please call 239.476.0311.

The boat ramp at ‘Tween Waters is not operational and launch off from ‘Tween Waters is not an option.
