Wednesday, September 28, 2022 is a date that has forever changed the present and future of Sanibel Island and Captiva Island. As we all know, Hurricane Ian crushed these beautiful barrier islands with a Category 5 magnitude among the most powerful and devastating in U.S. history.

Sanibel Captiva Beach Resorts was significantly and tragically impacted. Three of our four legendary beach resorts were lost beyond repair: West Wind Island Resort, Beachview Cottages and Castaways Cottages, while roughly 90% of Sanibel Captiva Island Vacation homes went offline.

Almost miraculously, ‘Tween Waters Island Resort & Spa escaped with only minor damage — opening within weeks to shelter and feed restoration crews and first responders, and even opening to the public early January.

Many of you have expressed your long love affair with our resorts, love that often extends across generations of island visits, along with your sadness. For your memories, your passion, your loyalty and your words of hope, we thank you.

Today, our goal is to provide you an update of our efforts to positively move forward in the creation of the next generation of Sanibel Captiva Beach Resorts. Currently, at our three lost properties, architects and engineers are working together to develop a new vision for each that acknowledges the past, yet will evolve to provide you new beach resort and dining experiences with the best and most desirable amenities.
