As I write this today, we’re now coming up on 18 months of recovery and hard work since Hurricane Ian turned our world here upside down.
Most of you are aware that in the aftermath, three of our beloved beach resorts – West Wind Island Resort, Beachview Cottages and Castaways Cottages – were figuratively and literally swept away.
I know I speak for everyone at Sanibel Captiva Beach Resorts in expressing our sincere appreciation for your support, encouragement and passion about our plans for the future.
At the site of Beachview Cottages, architectural and engineering plans for an attractive, new resort concept are now being finalized. We hope to see these plans approved later this year, at which time construction will begin with an exciting “welcome back” targeted for late 2025.
Additionally, our conceptual plans for the slice of paradise that was West Wind Island Resort have been presented to and reviewed by our ownership and board of directors. Discussion will continue over the next few months as we work to evolve our concept into a breathtaking island resort destination.
Finally, where Castaways Cottages once stood at Blind Pass, we’re evaluating the best options to maximize the potential of this landmark, one-of-a-kind location between Sanibel and Captiva.
Building back takes a great deal of thought, time and commitment to ensure that everything we do will safeguard – not harm – our beautiful barrier islands, both short and long term. To accomplish this, we’ll aim to be the leader in Sustainable Tourism, working with local, state and federal governments to establish best practices for other island businesses to follow. Rest assured that we’re moving as quickly as possible and will keep you up-to-date on our steady progress.
Thank you all again for your support, encouragement, enthusiasm and love for Sanibel Captiva Beach Resorts – over the years and today.
With sincere gratitude,
Doug Babcock | Chief Executive Officer
